Year 9

Stimolare

Research variously describes Year 9 as ‘the lost year’ of schooling. While Literacy and Numeracy remains a significant focus at Year 9, high levels of anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges pose unique challenges for learning and wellbeing for Year 9 learners.

In a deliberate and targeted response in support of Year 9 learners and their families, St Bonaventure’s College offers a bespoke Year 9 program for all learners, this program is named Stimolare, Italian for stimulate; spur; energise; motivate; or incite.

Stimolare will meet the requirements of student learning entitlements within the Australian Curriculum, as well as a significant focus on social emotional wellbeing and development. Stimolare will address literacy and numeracy; general disengagement and belonging issues; mental health and wellbeing concerns; and socioeconomic disparities.

Stimolare will see students engaging in authentic learning in the community for five weeks per term in each of Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 of the Year 9 school year, setting students and their families up with the skills and dispositions required for success in the senior phase of learning.

Each student in Year 9 will also participate in a Franciscan styled Service-Learning Program.

All tuition, resource and transport costs for Stimolare are included within the College Fees and Levies.
